Rupert Guinness Rides VRAAM
Australian sports journalist and author, Rupert Guinness will ride the VRAAM from Race HQ in the G-Brothers Mercedes showroom at Mona Vale in Sydney, Australia. He will be joined by an array of personalities, cyclists and athletes in the virtual world. Everyone will get a chance to ride alongside them.
Guinness, 58 and who had been training for the 2020 RAAM, seized the opportunity to ride in VRAAM once it was put to him by his RAAM Crew Chief, Anthony Gordon.
Rupert’s reaction was “First, I laughed at the idea; but the more I thought, I saw this as a prime chance to put my RAAM training to good use and set myself up for a stronger preparation for RAAM in 2021,”
Rupert is also deeply committed to support and help in the area of mental health through his role as Multimedia Producer for the Crossing the Line Sport athlete well-being charity.
Rupert has long been a participant in endurance sports. His entry into ultra-cycling began in the 2017 and 2018 editions of Indian Pacific Wheel Race, a 5,471km event from Fremantle to Sydney, and in the 2018 and 2019 Revolve24 as a solo entrant in 24 hour Challenge.
Rupert, a former rugby union player, also rowed 12 years before taking up triathlon, in which he has raced in 10 Ironman events over the 3.8km swim, 180km cycle and 42.2km run distance. He has twice raced in the Hawaii Ironman; the first time in 1985 finishing 48th.
